Abstract

Down syndrome is one of the children with special needs, where the child has a low or below average intellectual level. The diagnosis of down syndrome in children will cause stress in parents (Kerig and Wenar 2011). The reaction that will be felt by parents is shock and not accepting the existing reality (Mangusong, 2011). One of the therapies that can be done by down syndrom children is speech therapy. Speech therapy serves to improve the ability to communicate. By having the ability to communicate, children with Down syndrome will be able to socialize well. By socializing, children can improve the quality of life and develop self-confidence. The purpose of this study is to help the development in the subject in the form of speech therapy. The method used is quantitative experiment, the sample used in this study is one person, the sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Data collection techniques in this study used interviews with the parents of the subjects and observations to the subjects. Data analysis was carried out using a non-parametric paired sample t test. The results of the study found the value of asymp sig of 0.042 < 0.05
