Abstract

This research aims to analyze the ability of understanding the content of poetry through the process skill approach in Indonesian language lessons. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The respondents of this research were 30 students of class V at SD Negeri 46 gresik. The instrument used in this research was a test of understanding the content of poetry. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. The results showed that the students' ability to understand the content of poetry increased after being given learning through the process skill approach. There was a significant improvement in the aspects of understanding the meaning of words, understanding the meaning of sentences, understanding the meaning of paragraphs, and understanding the overall meaning of the poem. Therefore, the process skill approach can be an effective alternative in improving the ability to understand the content of poetry in Indonesian language lessons.
