Abstract

Self-confidence is an attitude possessed by a person in the form of belief in their potential and the courage to take risks. This study aims to determine the influence of perceptions of authoritarian parenting styles on self-confidence among students at SMP Negeri 11 Gresik. The research method used is quantitative. The population in this study consists of students in grades VII, VIII, and IX. The sample size is 233 students. The sampling technique employed is Accidental Sampling. Data on the variables of authoritarian parenting perception and self-confidence were collected by distributing questionnaires. The scale used in this study was a Likert scale with four answer options. The measurement tools for the authoritarian parenting perception scale and the self-confidence scale were developed by the researcher. The validity of the scale was tested using content validity. Reliability was calculated using Cronbach's Alpha. The data analysis technique used was simple linear regression. The results of this study showed a coefficient of determination of 0.104 or 10.4% with a significance level of P < 0.05, indicating that there is an influence of authoritarian parenting perception on self-confidence among students at SMP Negeri 11 Gresik. The remaining 89.6% is influenced by variables not studied in this research, which may be influenced by other factors such as age maturity, physical appearance, and so on. The research category for the authoritarian parenting style perception variable among the subjects falls into the moderate category, with 171 subjects (73%), and the self-confidence variable among the subjects also falls into the moderate category, with 170 subjects (73%).
