Abstract

Textbook is a book which serves to help both teacher and students in teaching and learning process. In this research, the researcher would like to analyze about English textbook Effective Communication for 2nd year student of SMK. This research attempted to identify the effective communication 2nd year SMK textbook whether or not considered relevant to the EFL textbook evaluation criteria and fulfilled the criteria based on EFL textbook evaluation based on Jahangard Journal. The research design of this research was content analysis with descriptive qualitative approach with the subject of this research an English textbook entitled “Effective Communication” for 2nd year student of SMK. The data sources in this research were documents. The technique to collecting the data was content analysis technique. The result of the research showed that English textbook entitled “Effective Communication” for 2nd year student of SMK was relevant to the EFL criteria based on Jahangard and KTSP curriculum. The thirteen criteria based on Jahangard have been fulfilled by the book. Teacher needs to add more visual materials and complete the listening practices with cassette. The English textbook “Effective Communication” is good to be used for 2nd year student of SMK based on its fulfillments to the criteria and KTSP curriculum. By using this book, hopefully a good teaching and learning result is achieved.
