Abstract

The background of this research is based on the results of interviews and observations of class V students at SDN 143 Gresik with results showing that there are problems in critical thinking skills among students who are still minimal in mastering critical thinking skills in the learning process. This research aims to determine the effect of using the problem based learning model on students' critical thinking abilities in social studies subjects for class V at SDN 143 Gresik for the 2022-2023 academic year. Quantitative research used the True-Experimental method with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design consisting of a control class and an experimental class. The research subjects were 42 students. The data collection techniques used were pretest and posttest. Based on the results of the analysis carried out by the researcher, the T-test showed a significant result of 0.000 < 0.05 that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted, meaning that there was an influence of the problem based learning model on critical thinking skills in social science lessons in class V elementary school.
