Abstract
Paraphrase is a strategy which demands the readers to comprehend the content of the text which they read. It closes to the main idea because they must be able to figure the main idea of the text out. Then, they can express their comprehension by using their own words. There are three steps to have paraphrasing strategy. It is called “RAP”. It is abbreviation of “Read, Ask to yourself, and Put into your own words”. From that reason, the writer wants to prove that there is really positive influence after implementing paraphrasing strategy towards students‟ reading comprehension. This study was aimed to know the effect of students‟ reading comprehension by using paraphrasing strategy towards the students who get paraphrasing strategy and the students do not get paraphrasing strategy. Then, the writer chooses the students of Nurul Huda junior high school at 8th grade. In addition, the writer used pre and post test as the instrument in this study. The research finding showed that probability value (sig. 2 tailed) was 0.000. It means that the probability value was lower than 0.05 (0.000 ≤ 0.05). Therefore, there was significant difference between control and experimental group. So, null hypothesis must be rejected but alternative hypothesis will be accepted. It could be stated that paraphrasing strategy influences students‟ reading comprehension in 8th grade of Nurul Huda junior high school. For suggestion, reading is one of the important things to increase our knowledge. So, if we want to develop our knowledge, we should comprehend the text well. Then, we are able to have variations to express our comprehensions of a certain passage. In order we understand and remember the content by our ways. Therefore, everyone is asked to have different words to tell the main idea of the text. So, paraphrase has good influences for the students. They are able to write based on their words and creativeness. Then, they can enlarge their vocabulary because one of the paraphrasing strategies is finding the synonym. Thus, they get skill improvement out of comprehending a passage.
