Abstract

Vocabulary is one of an important elements in English. Without vocabulary, people will be difficult to communicate to others using English. In education, it is needed to emphasized that every teacher must be motivator to the students in order they interest in English so they have motivate to increase their English especially their vocabulary. Many students interest in English, but they have a problem with their vocabulary. Almost of the students acquire little vocabularies, so they will be difficult when they communicate using English. So that, teacher and their parents are very important one to improve their interest in English and their motivation to increase their English vocabulary. There are many ways to increase their vocabulary, one of the ways that the student of SD Muhammadiyah Manyar GKB did was they made a note the difficult vocabularies that they did not now the meaning and the writing when they got at the first, then they read it before they going to bed. This way can help them to increase their vocabulary. This research design of this study is descriptive qualitative. The objective of this study is to know “How the students at the fifth grade of SD Muhammadiyah Manyar GKB acquire vocabulary at school”. The subject of the study is three students at the fifth grade of SD Muhammadiyah Manyar GKB. The researcher collects the data use observation and interview the students and the teacher during teaching and learning process in the class. The finding showed that the students acquire the vocabularies at school with they made a note of difficult vocabularies and they read it before they going to bed. When in the classroom, if the teacher said new vocabularies they would ask the teacher the writing and they would ask to the teacher to spell the words and the meaning then they would write the vocabularies in their note. In conclusion, the researcher hopes that the students improve their vocabularies, although they have a problem in the meaning of vocabularies and the writing. In addition, the researcher hopes that the teacher can help the students to acquire many vocabularies and help them if they get a problem in English, especially in acquire vocabularies. It suggests to the studesnts to improve their vocabulary and the teacher to help the students if they get a problem in acquiring vocabulary.
