Abstract
Writing is complex skill that should be taught for all levels of students in learning English, include of hearing impaired students. Hearing impaired students of SLB Kelama Bhayangkari 2 Gresik have difficulties to compose complex paragraph in learning English. The teacher only teach simple paragraph for writing and there is no development. To solve those problems, the researcher developing material of English writing through Hot Potatoes. Beside, Interactive Writing strategy will support in composing the paragraph. The Research and Development used ADDIE model with some changes, those are; Analysis, Design, Development (Validation), Implementation, Evaluation and Final Product. The study was conducted in SLB Kemala Bhayangkari 2 Gresik, involving 3 hearing impaired students. The identified need analysis by interviewing English teacher and distributed questionnaire to the students. The result of student’s questionnaires showed the target need and learning need, to improve their writing skill. Moreover, the researcher did not find any textbook for the 11th grade of hearing impaired students. Those result guided the researcher to developed writing material based on their need. The researcher created a design instruction called material prototype as framework which was used in developing syllabus and media. There were two experts for assess the product which were English teacher who assessed the material with score 80 and CALL lecturer who assessed the media with score 75. The researcher gives recommendations for further researcher who be able to conduct the similar study with another media to develop more writing material and exercise. This study can be as reference to develop another English skill though Hot potatoes or other strategy. The researcher also could create interactive media and simple writing material for hearing impaired students.
