Abstract
In this study, the reseacher dealt with the development of vocabulary material using picture series to improve students’ vocabulary. The subjects in this study were seventh grade hearing impaired students with total number of five students. Their lack in hearing sense made them less in vocabulary. This study was to develop English vocabulary material in form of module to enhance students’ vocabulary and made them easy to understood when they learn English. The design of the study was Reseach and Development (R&D). In this reseach and development, there are some steps to develop module such as : need analysis, design instruction, development material, expert validation, development of validation, try out material, revision and final product. Need analysis in which the reseacher analyzes the needs of the students by giving questionnare toward the students, interview with the teacher and interview with the experts. After analyzing the students’need, the researcher designed module based on the students’ need which is proper with the syllabus in that school. Afterwards, the reseacher made syllabus based on students’ need and lesson plans that refers to the syllabus. In which, there are three lesson plans which are one lesson plan is for one unit. There are three unit in this study, in which each unit have different theme. After developing module as a final product, the reseacher gave it to the expert in order to be evaluated, giving suggestion and validated. After giving that module to the expert, the reseacher should be revised and developed it. Then, the reseacher conducted the try out to the five hearing imparied student on the seventh grade of SMPLB Kemala Bhayangkari. The final product of this study is the vocabulary material in the form of written book, that is module. The content of the material are the picture series in the form of procedure text. Based on the result of expert assesment, this module is very suitable to use as teaching media to seventh grade hearing impaired students, and the result of tried out showed that this module is interest to use for seventh grade hearing impaired students. The reseacher gives some recommendation to the next reseacher, who intends to conduct the similar project that to tries apply using another media, which emphasize on visualisation for the hearing impaired student. For the teacher, this product could be as combining when they teach to introduce the simple Englsih vocabulary to the students.
