Abstract

This research aims to know the used of multimedia CD-ROM on ESP reading material. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of multimedia CD-ROM in the ability to be to develop English reading material on the first semester for computer engineering and network student in SMK NU GRESIK based on the needs and inputs from other informants. The type of this research is Research and Development. The subject in this study are using of multimedia CD_ROM on reading skill material of the student 10th grade and the students 10th grade in SMK NU GRESIK. This research was done once during the process of teaching and learning takes place. Media used in teaching by the researcher to learning reading skill material is Multimedia CD-ROM. Data collection techniques of observation are documents owned by the teachers, teacher interview, and giving questionnaire to the students. The researcher developed reading material based on the syllabus which creates based on the student need and students want in the form of multimedia CD-ROM. The researcher took 12 students tried out the multimedia CD-ROM randomly taken by the teacher. The results of this research gained students experience feeling while learns the reading material and doing exercise that was given by the researcher which held on the try out. They said that it was such an interesting thing that they ever had since learning English in their school, especially on reading skill. In this research, the Development Model used was the ADDIE model which was take some of modification which is has the procedure; a. need analysis, b. the result of interview, c. the development of multimedia CD-ROM, d. the expert validation, e. the result of development, f. try out, g. the revision, and h. the final product. It might be concluded that the researcher’s product which is multimedia CD-ROM can be used to 10th grade students of SMK NU GRESIK. From this product possibly could help the teacher in combining the manner in teaching English with other ways so that students could feel interesting and fun in learning. For students, it presented attractive thing in learning English mainly reading and also the way to manage computer. For readers, it could inspire them to enlarge into other way and contribute for people who relate to teaching and learning process. The final, for additional research, this product could be taken into an action research to find out the effects of implementing this product in reading learning process.
