Abstract

In the process of teaching English Collaborative Writing is one of the strategies that have a positive effect on aspects of writing. However, based on previous research on the implementation of this strategy, several obstacles were found including students who were less active in discussions and even some students did not want to be involved in the collaborative writing process so that this had an effect where the teaching process was not running optimally, therefore choosing an appropriate media is one of the best and effective methods by using online learning based Edmodo. This study aims to examine the significant effect of using Online Collaborative Writing through Edmodo on Students' Writing skills. The design of this study was a quasi-experimental design with 10th-grade students from MA Masyhudiyah Giri as the subject. The researcher took two classes as the sample by using the Cluster Sampling technique. They were X-MIPA 1 as an experimental group and X-MIPA 2 as a control group was in each class consisted of 28 students. The research finding revealed that there was a significant difference between the experimental group who were taught by using Online Collaborative Writing through Edmodo and the control group who were taught by using only Collaborative Writing. It is proven by the result of sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000. The sig. (2-tailed) is lower than the significance level of 0.05 (0.000< 0.05). So, the null hypothesis (Ho) can be rejected. It means that Online Collaborative Writing through Edmodo has significant effect on students' writing skill. And it can be concluded that Online Collaborative Writing through Edmodo gave a positive effect on student writing skill. Therefore, the researcher provides recommendations to the English teacher to apply Online Collaborative Writing through Edmodo in English teaching and learning process and for a further researcher, the use of collaborative writing or Edmodo can be applied in other ways, skills, or levels to make different with the previous study.
