Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between teacher’s pronunciation accuracy with students’ pronunciation accuracy and between teacher’s pronunciation accuracy with students’ interest in pronunciation. A teacher and fifteen students in second grade of a vocational high school participated in this study. Each participant, the teacher and students involved in pronunciation test by recording their pronunciation while reading the text consisted of twenty words. The students completed an interest questionnaire to measure their level of interest in pronunciation. The Spearman Rank Order was used to determine the coefficient of correlation between the variables by inputting each participant’s score of pronunciation test and questionnaire of interest. Based on the value of the correlation coefficient, it showed that there is low negative correlation between teacher’s pronunciation accuracy and students’ pronunciation accuracy. It is probability that when the teacher makes error, the students can make error also. Besides, there is low positive correlation between teacher’s pronunciation accuracy with students’ pronunciation interest. It means that when the teacher has high accuracy in pronunciation, the students can also have high interest in pronunciation. The following ideas for further research were also suggested. First, since it cannot be determined by using statistically procedure, a replication of this study may be conducted by using other research design such as qualitative methodology. Using correlation design showed that it still could not predict the relationship between teacher and students’ pronunciation well because it cannot found the significance of the relationship. While, qualitative design can be used to explore and describe the detail of its relationship by using further observation and interview among the subjects.
