Abstract
The development of reading test using Hotpotatoes software is needed to improve students’ abilities of SMP Manbaul Ulum in Reading, because it is already common that students’ motivation and ability in reading are low. While in the modern era, students are acustomed to use computer software since they are young, so that learning process must combine the rise of technology into learning process. But in fact, the reading test given by the teacher in this school a still manually written or typed in the form of paper. The development of reading test for students of SMP Manbaul Ulum was to help them increase their motivation and ability in reading. The Design of this product was research and development. The researcher applied ADDIE model which was modified by Candra Hadi Asmara to develop this study. There were need analysis, design, development, expert validation, revision, try out and final product. After conducting research, the reseacher found that the students need new variation in reading test format using computer software. The test will be completed with colorfull. After being tested to students they feel interested and enthusiastic to do the test. They also feel that it is compact and easy to operate. In conducting the research,The researcher took 20 students of seventh grade of SMP Manbaul Ulum for trying out. From the trying out, the researcher improved the weaknesses of the test. After trying out the product, it showed that the test was appropriate for the students. While the researcher asked the student about the test, most of them said that they felt interested in reading English more. The researcher hopes this product could be useful for teachers to improve their student in reading. For student, it could inspire them to be more desired to read a lot
