Abstract

Digital Storytelling media is a powerful technology tool in education which integrates technologies and telling stories together. It combines text, imagines or audios into creative of storytelling. Digital storytelling can be used as a media in language learning to help students improve their English speaking skills to tell the story in their own words. The purpose of this study is to find out the significant effect between students who are taught using digital storytelling and those who are taught using storytelling at Ma’arif NU senior high school of Benjeng grade X. The researcher used an experimental design in which there are two classes; one of the experiment group and the control group that each has 20 students. The data is collected through quantitative methods. The quantitative data is obtained from the result of the pre-test and post-test students speaking skills. Before creating Digital Storytelling, students had to take pre-test to identify their speaking ability. One group created their DS of the given stories about Narrative text to be presented in the classroom. Other group was asked to read the given stories and then present them. Both groups were tested for their oral production and competence. After the presentation, the post-test was used to find out whether there was a significant effect using DS in speaking ability. The results showed that by the use of DS students develop better oral skill and this technique can be considered as an essential tool in foreign language and teaching.
