Abstract

Speaking is one of the four skills available in English learning. Speaking skills really help us to communicate well with people around us. Based on the previous studies, Dictogloss can be used for teaching learning listening, writing, and speaking. The finding of the result showed that Dictogloss can be an alternative method to improve students skill, especially for speaking skill. Further, the study suggests that it will be more effective if all the aspects of every skill was used when teaching learning process. In the previous study that focused in speaking skill was only focused on three aspects of speaking that are pronunciation, vocabulary, and fluency. In that research also used Classroom Action Research, so this study was used Dictogloss technique in teaching speaking and focused on five aspects of speaking that are pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency, grammar, and comprehension. This study was used quasi experimental design. This study was designed to know the effect of Dictogloss technique on students speaking ability, and to know whether there is any significant difference of the experimental group and cntrol group. The design of this study was quasi experimental design. The subject of the study were the eight grades of SMP Muhammadiyah 07 Cerme in Academic Year 2018/2019. There were two groups that were given different treatments, in the experimental group was used Dictogloss technique, and in control group was used Group Discusssion. The reserach finding showed that the value of Sig. (2 tailed) was 0.002 in critical value for 5% level. It means that the null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted because the significant value was less than 5% or (0.05>0.002). So, it can be concluded that there was significant effect of Dictogloss technique on students speaking ability of SMP Muhammadiyah 07 Cerme. Therefore, the researcher suggests to the English teacher to apply Dictogloss technique in teaching speaking as an alternative method to avoid monotonous activities in teaching learning speaking process, and to make the students more confidence when practice speaking by their idea. The researcher also suggest for further researcher to conduct Dictogloss technique because it is good in teaching learning process. They can implement Dictogloss technique in Junior High School or in Senior High School. They are also able to provide other text and media that can make the students enjoy and easy to speak up.
