Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out whether any significant correlation between motivation and participation or not. The researcher wanted to know the correlation in junior high school level. In this case, the researcher interests to investigate the correlation conducting quatitative research at SMPN 1 Menganti. The participants of this study is students of 8A grade at SMPN 1 Menganti as the subject. The data was collected by using MRQ questionnaire and CPQ questionnaire. After collecting the data, the researcher analyzed the adata used statistical computation SPSS by used descriptive statistic and spearman rank formula. The result showed that the calculation of spearman rank discovers relationships (r) value is 0,580 at 5% level of significant. It shows that there is positive and strong correlation between motivation and participation for reading skill in learning english. Although the finding of this study there is any significant, for thefurther researcher will be better if this research is continued in the future.
