Abstract
This study investigated the effects of using word chain games on the vocabulary mastery of fifth grade students at SDN 88 Gresik. The aims of this study was to determine the effect of using a word chain game on the vocabulary mastery of fifth grade students at SDN 88 Gresik. This study used a quantitative research method using a pre-experiment design. The researcher used a writing test to collect data. The sample of this study was 31 fifth grade students of SDN 88 Gresik, consisting of 15 male students and 16 female students. The data were analyzed after obtaining the test scores and analyzed using the t-test formula on SPSS version 29.0. The results show that the word chain game is a learning method that is able to have an effect on students' vocabulary mastery and is able to improve students' scores in vocabulary mastery. This is evidenced by the results of the t-test significance value of <0.001 where the figure is below the 0.05 figure, meaning that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. The average value of students in the pre-test shows a number of 63.87, then the average value of the post-test shows an increase in value of 90.06. There was an increase in scores after the researchers gave treatment using the word chain game. Based on the explanation above, it can be said that there is a significant effect of using word chain games on students' vocabulary mastery.
