Abstract
This study was conducted to compare the results of vocabulary learning between using picture and audiovisual media in seventh grade of Junior High School. This aimed to find out whether there was signficant difference in vocabulary mastery between picture media class and audiovisual media one. The reason it was conducted because pictures media was the only one media in teaching vocabulary in this school. And it was estimated less effective, so appliying audiovisual as media in vocabulary learning made the researcher wonder if any of them was more effective in increasing students’ vocabulary mastery. Ex post facto was used in this research. The object was Nahdhatul Islahiyah School and the subject was the seventh grade students of it, those were 7.1 and 7.2. The numbers of students were 30 students in each class. Those two classes was normaly distributed and has same variant or homogeneous. Based on the data obtained and analized, from the school of seventh graders in Nahdhatul Islahiyah School in second term of 2559 of Thailand’s academic year, the scores of vocabulary test in audiovisual media class were better than those who were taught by using picture media. The t-test application of two groups showed that t-value (5.391) is higher than t-table number (1.672). Therefore, it can be concluded that vocabulary mastery of students’ who taught by using audiovisual media is better than those who taught by using picture as media. Based on the results, teachers can apply audiovisual as an alternative media in helping students to improve their vocabulary mastery, especially students in range of age among 10-17 years old.
