Abstract

This study described about the effectiveness of using graphic organizer in reading comprehension. Reading comprehension is the most important because reading can influence the other skills. There are some reasons for that. Firstly, reading skill is can improve about spelling, writing, and vocabulary. Second, from reading every one can find a lot of information from which they read. Based on the important of reading skill, the researcher conduct how the students study about reading comprehension in one of the school in Gresik, that is SMP Islamic Qon GKB Manyar Gresik. This study also describe how the teacher use strategy and how the response of the students which the teacher use in teaching learning. The researcher observes especially graphic organizer strategy which the teacher uses in reading comprehension and also the effectiveness of graphic organizer itself. To collect the data the researcher used three instruments; observation, interview, questionnaire, and analyze the score. The researcher observe the class, how is the response of the students when the teacher use graphic organizer, the researcher interviewed six students who got the low score, and six students who got the high score and the teacher, all of the students contributed for answered the questionnaire, the teacher analyze the score of the students to support the study. After analyzing the data, it was found the students are able to understand about some text by the teachers’ strategy use. And the response of the students depends of the strategy use of the teacher. Based on the finding, the researcher found some fact. There are nine effectiveness of graphic organizer in reading comprehension during and after teaching learning process. First is encourages the motivation of the students to read some text, second make the students interest to read some text, third effective in combining with other strategy, forth increase the students’ vocabulary, fifth improve students’ understanding the text, sixth increase students’ reading comprehension, seventh classify the information of the text, eighth students give good response, ninth good interaction between the teacher and the students. Graphic organizer is effectively for the reading comprehension. We use the graphic organizer in all of the kind of the text, and make the students enjoy with reading comprehension in learning process. The researcher hopes this thesis could be valuable in giving understanding for the students and the teacher know about the other kinds of graphic organizer. it is make the students interest with reading comprehension
