Abstract

This study aims at examining the effectiveness of Mobile Collaborative Learning on Students’ Writing Performance By Implementing Magnet Summary Strategy. The subject of this study consisted of 50 students in 10 grade at MA Al-Balagh Bulutigo Laren Lamongan in the academic year of 2022/2023, there were 25 of whom were enrolled in the natural science program and 25 in the social science program. The experimental group (N 25) with 11 male and 14 female students, while in the control group (N 25) with 13 male and 12 female students. The researcher determined the experimental class and the control class from the existing population. The design of this study utulised quasi-experimental approach with quantitative approach. The experimental cohort (N 25) was treated Mobile Collaborative Learning with Magnet Summary Strategy implementation via WhatsApp Group; meanwhile the control cohort (N 25) was taught their writing skill using traditional method. The data obtained through two instruments: writing test and a questionnaire was also distributed to assess their perception. This research is limited to content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. The data anlysis were then computed using independent sample t-test and paired sample sample t-test. From the finding of t-test analysis revealed that Mobile Collaborative Learning with Magnet Summary Strategy yielded significant effects on students’ writing performance, i.e. the experimental group compared the control group. The questionnaire indicated that the students had positive effect toward using mobile collaborative learning and magnet summary strategy. Despite the reported findings, there are some limitations to the study that must be acknowledged. Firstly, only a small number of students participated; therefore, the findings' generalizability should be assessed with caution. As a result, more research on the MCL needs to be done with a larger number of participants and EFL students at different proficiency levels in Lamongan. Secondly, The questionnaire used to examine students' perceptions toward the implementation of MCL with the MSS process composed only 15 statements. Future studies may use a variety of data collection techniques, including interviews, to triangulate their findings to improve validity and outcomes.
