Abstract
Because of its importance as a language used for global communication, English is taught from lower level to the higher level of school in Indonesia. It needs a support to enhance the automotive engineering students’ English skill. But in doing it, there is no guideline to help the students learn English in an organized way. So, the researcher tries to develop English material for automotive engineering. In the process of material development, the researcher adapts ADDIE development model. First step is need analysis in which the researcher analyzes the students’ need by giving questionnaire and doing interview to the students and the teacher. Second step is creating design instruction in which the researcher makes a syllabus and draft of the English material based on the result of needs analysis. Third, the researcher starts to develop automotive engineering material based on the draft. Fourth step is validating the module to the experts which the researcher gives the module to the expert to be validated. Fifth step is do try-out in which the researcher conducts it to the automotive engineering students. Sixth step is the researcher revises the module based on the suggestion of the experts and the comment of automotive engineering students. The last step is the final product in which the product is ready used as guideline. In developing English material in this study uses content based instruction approach and using more exercise for better practical strategy. There are three chapters in the module, they are; “Firstly, Open the Oil Drain Plug!”, How To Be A Good Technicians”, and “Job Interview” chapters. The first chapter covers the general information about reparation and maintenance a car. Then, the second chapter covers the information about the way to be a good technician. The third chapter covers the information about job description especially for automotive engineering major. This English module also contains user preface, exercises, and explanations of the material, answer key, evaluation, and also references. The researcher hopes that this module gives advantage to automotive engineering student. For the students, this module can be used as English guideline. For the teacher, this English module can be used to teach English for automotive engineering students in an organized way. For the further researcher, the researcher suggests that the further researcher encloses explanation of special automotive term.
