Abstract

The study is about the teaching writing using writing fun in improving writing skill to the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Manyar. Teaching writing to Junior High School is not an easy task. It requires a lot of creativity from a professional teacher. The object of the study is to find out the students’ ability using writing fun. It is expected that the research would be useful for the teachers and students in language teaching and learning process. The subject of the study is the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Manyar, Gresik in the academic year of 2010/2011. There were 32 students (25 girls and 7 boys). The researcher took all of them as the subject of the study. The technique used for collecting data is one cycle in writing classroom activity using writing fun. It could help the students in the writing process. The “writing fun” as a media assists students to write a paragraph. The students are easier to make good sentence with chronological sequence in a right tenses and good organization text because there is key word to develop in a paragraph. The result of the study was that the students’ progress during teaching and learning activity by using writing fun to improve writing skill was good. The students’ achievement in writing was improved, it was supported by the significance result of the first draft as pretest was 48,38, reflection action of pretest as first writing using writing fun was 73.5, the reflection action as second writing using writing fun was 76,25post test writing was 84.75. Therefore, teachers should always creative to use strategy for their teaching. Based on the result, teachers can apply writing fun to improve the students’ writing skill. Next researchers who want to conduct a research using writing fun are recommended using this research.
