Abstract

The objective of this research is to see the effectiveness of KWL (Know Want Lerned) strategy through students’ question in reading comprehension at Junior High School. The method used in this study was quantitative method. The design of the study was quasi experimental research design. It is called experimental study because this research describes the effectiveness of using KWL charts strategy through students’ question in reading comprehension at Junior High School that was done in one class. Before doing the activity, the students were given pre-test. Then the students were taught descriptive text by using KWL charts strategy. The last, the students were given post-test to know whether KWL charts strategy is effective or not to improve students’ reading comprehension on descriptive text. The researcher used cluster sampling technique to determine the subject from the toral of population. The subjects in this study were a classes of eight grade students with the total number of 65 students. 32 students in experimental group and 33 students in control group. The result of the study showed that there was significant different between students’ score in learning reading compehension on descriptive text before and after applying KWL charts strategy. According to the result of statictical calculation it can be seen that t0 is 7,367 and degree of freedom (df) is 63, whereas the value of tf on the 95% confidence interfal of the difference are 3,43336 and 3,43186. In the ither word, the value of t0 (tobservation) is higher than tf (ttable). It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. In conclusion KWL charts strategy significantly influence students’ question in reading comprehension at Junior High School. For the next researcher, the researcher expected to do further research about KWL charts strategy. The next researcher can use KWL charts strategy as the strategy in another skill in English such a speaking, listening, and writing.
