Abstract
Textbook is a book use by the teacher for the study of a subject. Textbook is a guideline of standard competency. Indonesian schools use textbook as a media to present the materials. It means that textbook is needed for English learning process. The problem statement of this research is Do the English textbook meet the criteria of a good textbook suggested by Pusat Perbukuan (Pusbuk). So, this research intends to know if the English textbook meets the criteria of a good textbook suggested by Pusat Perbukuan (Pusbuk). The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The researcher uses documentation to collect the data. From the data, the researcher made description and analysis to answer the research question. The researcher uses documentation of English textbook to meet the criteria of a good textbook by Pusat Perbukuan (Pusbuk). According to Pusat Perbukuan (Pusbuk), there are three components are; content suitability, presentation suitability, and language suitability. Three components have 23 subcomponents. This research hereuses 3 items for those components. There are suitability of subject matter with standard competency and basic competency, development of life capability and development of diversity perception. The research findings showed that there are three criterias which it can be analysis by the researcher. They are: suitability of subject matter with standard competency and basic competency which is analysis of completeness and deepness aspects; development of life capability which is analysis of proficiency academic, personal skill and social skill aspects; and development of diversity perception which is analysis of the materials in accordance with the development of science and using features or examples current/actual aspects.From three criterias include all of those aspects that itcan be analysis by the researcher by using score among 1, 2, 3, and 4, andthe three of subcomponents has score 19. So, the result of this research showed that the textbook have percentage 68%. The researcher gives suggestion for the teacher that theteachercan be used the textbook as a prime reference in teaching and learning process, and the teacher can easy to explore the materials because the materials of the textbook arranges based on standard competency and basic competency. Forthe authors,this reseach can be used for the development of the textbook quality and be better than before.
