Abstract

Students’ perception is the process of students to select, organize, and interpret an environment into meaningful information which cover students’ feeling of dislike, or like towards something or item, it includes also the negative, positive opinion, and neutral point of view towards an object. Students’ perception in this study focuses on the implementation of e – learning in thesis writing class. Meanwhile, e – learning is defined as a type of learning that uses information and communication technology (ICT) via the internet, intranets, extranets or many others to improve the quality of teaching and learning. Here, researcher wants to know how is students’ perception towards e – learning. So, the researcher gives questionnaire and interview to the students. That is why, this study to find the students’ perception towards e – learning is needed to answer this phenomenon. This is mixed method design or qualitative survey. 34 students of 8th semester in English education department of University of Muhammadiyah Gresik are the subject of this study. The data was collected by using perception questionnaire. The questionnaire was used to get the answer of students’ perception. After gained the data, the researcher analyzed the data by using some formulas. The researcher also used interview to ensure the result of questionnaire. The researcher’s finding from calculating of data showed that students had average perception to the implementation of e – learning. There are 26 students (76, 47%) who had average perception. Finally, it can be concluded that the students agree about the implementation of e – learning, but there are some aspects and problems that have to be solved such as students’ comprehension, internet connectivity, etc. Therefore, it suggested for conducting studies which aim to find students’ perception towards e – learning in different subject and situation, for the university, university can complete some aspects that are needed in the implementation of e – learning, for the lecturer, s/he may motivate students to use e – learning and provide suitable material in e – learning, and for the students, s/he may give participation in e – learning.
