Abstract
Vocabulary is is a list or series of words within a person's language or part of grammatical patterns that is used to express the idea or in other meaning it is used for acquiring knowledge and also general communication. Meanwhile, reading comprehension is is the process of constructing meaning from text and comprehending involves decoding the researcher's words and then using background knowledge to construct an approximate understanding of the researcher's message. Here, the researcher wants to know whether there is correlation between self vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension or not. So, the reseacher gives the test to the students as subject. That is why, this study aimed to find the Relationship Between Students Vocabulary Mastery And Their Reading Comprehension For Eight Grade Students At Smp Muhammadiyah 4 Giri Kebomas, Gresik is needed to answer this phenomenon. This is Quantitative study which is needed in correlational study. The population was all of the 8th grade students which consist of three class. 60 students of B and C class are the sample of this study. The data was collected by using test of vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension scores. After gained the data, the researcher analyzed the data by using statistical computation of SPSS 15 and used Pearson Product Moment correlation. The researcher finding from the computation of data showed that there was positive and very strong correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension (r=0.864 with sig. (2-tailed) 0.00). Furthermore, the p-value was 0.005. That is why the null hypothesis (H0) can be rejected. It meant there was significance correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension eight grade students in B and C Class of SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Giri Kebomas, Gresik. Finally, since the result of this study is positive, very strong, and significantly correlated, it is suggested to conduct studies which aimed to find best way how to make students vocabulary mastery higher in order to increase the students’ reading comprehension.
