Abstract

Vocabulary plays an important role in learning English process. For the primary school students, vocabulary is the necessary lesson which can be the basic links to four skills; listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Problem which happened to the 3rd grade students of SD Muhammadiyah Manyar GKB was about vocabulary. They often forget if the teacher asked them again vocabularies at previous meeting. As what Suyanto (2004:5) stated that learning language (foreign language) is a traumatic experience for children so that they have to feel enjoy and happy in learning. Using CALL instruction or as many people know as learning language using computer was one of ways which offered by the researcher to overcome their feelings. The researcher developed vocabulary material based on the syllabus of the school in the form of multimedia CD-ROM. After developing it, the researcher took expert validation. There were some parts that should be revised (such as the display and also the exercise). Then, she revised it as what experts suggested. Next, she tried out the media to six students of the 3rd grade randomly. She took their scores and also saw their final test score in last semester. The result showed that scores of four students increased from the final test to try out score. The researcher also asked students to comment about the researcher’s product. All of them said that they feel happy and fun could try it because as long as they have learned English, they have never learned with this kind of media. It might conclude that the researcher’s product could be used for the 3rd grade students of SD Muhammadiyah Manyar GKB. From the increasing result of those students, the researcher perhaps this product could help the teacher in combining the way in teaching English with other ways so that students could feel fun in learning. For students, it offered new thing in learning English especially vocabulary and also the way to operate computer. For readers, it could motivate them to develop into other method and contribute for people who relate to teaching and learning process. The last, for further research, this product could be taken into an action research to find out the effects of implementing this product in vocabulary learning.
