Abstract
This study analyses kinds of teaching techniques used by a teacher in teaching speaking at international standard class. This study realizes that the successful of international standard class depends on teaching techniques applied by the teacher in the classroom. The purposes of this study are to describe what teaching techniques are used by the teacher in teaching English speaking skill, to describe how the teacher applies the speaking teaching techniques, and to describe why the teacher applies the speaking teaching techniques. Using instruments, such as an observation, interview, and questionnaire, this study concludes that teaching techniques used by the teacher in teaching English speaking skill at international standard class of SMPN Gresik are conversation practice, dialog memorization, peer correction, positive suggestion, choosing a new identity, reflection on experience, using commands to direct behavior and role reversal. Meanwhile, the most teaching techniques used are conversation practice and dialog memorizations. The teacher applied those teaching technique in order to encourage students to speak up. Moreover, the implementation of teaching techniques required the teacher to make some improvisations in order to make students enjoy learning English.
