Abstract
The integration of digital media into language education has grown significantly, with English podcasts emerging as a widely used tool for listening practice. However, the previous studies have primarily investigated the use of podcasts at the school level, with little emphasis on learners’ perceptions in higher education and their preferences regarding podcast types. This study aims to explore university students' perceptions of using English podcasts and identify the podcast formats they find most effective for improving listening skills. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed with 54 English Education students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik. Data were collected using questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistics. Students generally held positive perceptions of English podcasts, particularly in terms of vocabulary enhancement, comprehension, and motivation. Solo podcast found effective for focused vocabulary learning and understanding specific speech patterns it shown in average of mean score. Furthermore, interview podcast analyze that these podcasts helped them identify key points and phrases within conversational contexts. While, other discovered that lower value in improving listening abilities. In summary, English podcasts are perceived as effective supplementary tools for enhancing listening skills and are recommended for integration into language instruction.
