Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze the reflection of reading textbook on the curriculum on tenth grade student at SMK YASMU Manyar – Gresik. The reflection includes three components of novice level (readability of texts, indicators of reading skill for novice level, and levels of reading comprehension). The design of this study was descriptive research design content analysis method. The data was collected from textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris” for the tenth grade student which has 116 pages and nine chapters includes four skills of English and three components of languages, but the researcher only focus on reading materials (passages and reading activities). After reading the textbook, the researcher analyzed by using checklist toolbox and tables. The researcher found that readability of the text, shows us among twelve passages, there are only four readable passages, they are passage 1 in chapter VIII “The Secrets of Stonehenge”, passage 1 in chapter IX “Cancelation of JYJ Concert in Singapore”, passage 2 in chapter IX “ANNOUNCEMENT McMaster Mini-Med School” and passage 1 in chapter VII “Visiting Niagara Falls”. The second aspect has the result that among 27 passages, there was 16 tasks (59%) belongs to remembering, 7 tasks (26%) belong to understanding, applying got 1 task (4%) and analyzing got 4 tasks (11%).The last aspect, shows 71% questions belong to literal, and 23% others belong to interpretative and the rest 6% belongs to critical. Lastly, the researcher suggest to the English teachers better if the they look for the relevancy of the indicators of the reading activities presented in the textbook with the indicator of reading activities formulated in the curriculum and find out other reading texts taken from other sources which are suitable for first senior high school students.
