Abstract
In this study, the researcher dealt with the development of English reading test by using JQuiz program. The subject in this study was seventh grade of Nahdlatul Ulama 2 Gresik Junior High School with the total number of twenty students. An alternative way in give a reading test for students in seven grades of this school is needed, that is why the researcher wants to develop reading test by using JQuiz (Hot potatoes) software for seven grade of junior high school. The limitation of the study is on the reading test by using hot potatoes software especially on JQuiz which is an objective question. The researcher develops the reading test by learns more about syllabus from the school. Here the researcher had taken one period for second semester. The content of syllabus especially in reading skill, it has three topics to be applied in teaching reading, they are label/ list text, instruction/short notice/ warning and caution text, and also descriptive text. The researcher’s product was in the form of html in CD-ROM. The researcher used a JQuiz program that consist of questions, correlate pictures, multiple choices, answers feedback, total score, and timer. The researcher also conducted a validation of the development test. Validation was performed by experts in the field of education; it is purpose to make the English reading test acceptable to this research. The result of first try out is they still find an unmatched picture with the test and the misspelling of option. In the end of test, the students get a questionnaire as a feedback. The result of the questionnaire is all of students felt easy and comfortable to finish the test and want to do many other reading test. Based on conclusion, the researcher gave a recommendation to the teacher and the student that this product could be applied especially for the seventh grade at junior high school. First, for the teacher can learn how to operate and apply this program (CALL and hot potatoes software) to be sustainable because this program can be used for another topic, grade, skill and others. Second, for the students, it could be fun media in test whereas hopefully they would be motivated, interested and enthusiastic in learning English.
