Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between parents’ motivation and students’ attitude in learning English. The researcher wanted to know the correlation in Junior High Level. In this case, the researcher interests to investigate the correlation between parents’motivation and students’ attitude in learning English, by conducting quantitative correlation research at Junior High School of Darul Islam Gresik. The participants of this study are 8th B grade at Junior High School of Darul Islam Gresik as the subject. The data was collected by using questionnaire and Likert scale. The questionnaire was used to get the answer of parents’ motivation and students’ attitude. After collecting the data, the researcher analyzed the data used the statistical computation of SPSS 17.00 and used spearman’s rho formula. The result showed that the parents’ motivation in English is high motivation and score is 4.6 and the students’ attitude in learning English is on average attitude with the score is 4.0. Based on the value of calculation of Rank Spearman and the hypothesis testing, it showed that there is not significant very weak positive correlation between parents’ motivation and students’ attitude (r = 0.501), (sig = 0.133). It can be concluded that parents’ motivation have low relationship in students’ attitude in learning English. Although the finding of this study revealed that there is no significant relationship between parents’ motivation and students’ attitude in learning English, further research is needed to be carried out to investigate more the relationship between parents’ motivation and students’ attitude.
