Abstract
peaking is the basic function of language. There are some problems in learning speaking encountered by Junior High School students. The researcher does this study according to Vera Rahmadi research in 2013 entitle “The Effect of Using Three-Step Interview Strategy Toward Students’ Speaking Ability of the First Year Students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru”. The design is using quantitative design. In her research, the highest score increase is in comprehension and vocabulary aspect. But for the other aspect, such as accent, grammar, and fluency still get under 65 score. To solve those problems, the researcher want to apply applying three steps interview technique. The researcher assumes that applying three steps interview technique is effective toward the students’ speaking skill because it gives students more chance to practice and gives more opportunities to the students to make turn in speaking during the times allocated. The students can practice and express their idea freely because they do activities with their friends. This study was to investigate the significanct effect of using three steps interview (TSI) technique toward the student’s speaking ability. The researcher chooses the students of seven grade at SMPN 1 Kebomas to conduct this study. The researcher used cluster sampling technique to take the sample because researcher does not have authority to set a class using random sampling. The researcher decided to use VIIA as the experimental group and VIIB as the control group. This study using experimental design, the purpose of experimental research here is to find out the result of speaking ability which implemated by seventh grade students using three steps interview technique. the researcher begins to analyze the data by SPSS 16.0 program. The research finding showed that there was a significant difference between experimental group who were taught by using three steps interview technique and control group who were taught by two stay two stray. It is proven by the result of sig. (2-tailed) is 0.028. The sig. (2-tailed) is lower than 0.05 (0.028 < 0.05). So, null hypothesis (Ho) can be rejected. It means that three steps interview technique significantly effects on students' speaking ability. The researcher concluded that three steps interview technique gave positive effect on student speaking ability. Therefore, researcher suggests to the English teacher for implementing of three steps interview technique as an alternative method in English teaching learning process. For a further researcher, the researcher hopes that can use three steps interview technique in other skills, aspects and level to make different with the previous study.
