Abstract

Teaching English is an activity that enables the students to communicate in a simple English to the end of the learning process. It is not easy because English as a foreign language in our country so that the teacher should understand well the characteristic of their student. When the teachers teach, they could use everything what they want and conduct many ways during teaching and learning process. Sometimes, those way in teaching is not reffer to the theory but came from their assumptions in teaching. However, it was natural because every body has a different perceptions of teaching approaches, the way to deliver the materials and to choose some activities that gave an indication their beliefs system should be investigated. The primary aim of this study was to know kindergarten taechers’ beliefs in EFL teaching. Three English teachers in Gresik as subject in this study were choosing based on some criteria. The result of this study demonstrated that the way of teacher in teaching was various, the differences could be seen from the way of teacher started the class, some teachers conducted warming up. The way to deliver the material, every teacher had different way.The first finding showed that the belief of the teacher in teaching English came from experience as a learner. This was indicated of the use of games in teaching. The second finding was demonstrated that the belief of the teacher in teaching English also came from experience as a learner. This was indicated of the use of song as the best way in teaching English. The third finding showed that belief of the teacher in teaching English came from experience as a teacher. This was indicated that teacher was to conduct drilling as the best way to teach English as foreign language This study suggests that the selection of warming up should be appropriate with the students’ need in their learning not just made them pleasant. Conducting warming up before going to the topic of the lesson was a good way because it was prepared students to learn enjoyably. When conducted drilling, the most basic kind was a repetition drill. In this case, the teacher should pronounce exactly the words to make students clear what is to repeat.
