Abstract
This study is aimed at finding the significant influences of Audio Books using Communicative Language Teaching method to teach reading for the fifth grade at SDN Lasem Sedayu Gresik. To achieve this purpose, the researcher applied quasiexperimental of pre-test and post-test design. The research was carried out at SDN Lasem Sidayu Gresik from June 16th to July 19th 2014. The sample was taken from two classes which have low vocabulary. The sample consists of 30 students, VA consisting of 14 students as an experimental class and VB consisting of 16 students as a control class. The instrument used to collect the data is reading test to get scores of students reading. Before the instrument was used, a try out was done to know the validity and reliability of the instrument. After pre-test was given, the treatment was conducted in four meetings, then the researcher held post-test to get the research data. Based on the result of data analysis, the research showed that there was a significant difference between the students reading achievement who was taught by Audio Books using Communicative Language Teaching method and who was taught without Audio Books using Communicative Language Teaching method, it was proven from students’ score in post-test scores both experimental group was 79, which was higher than the control group who gained 69. The significant different shown by statistical value of observed t = 3.192 was above the 0.05 level and the value of Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.003 was under the 0.05 level of significance. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that Audio Books using Communicative Language Teaching method has significant influence to teach reading of fifth grade students at SDN Lasem Sidayu Gresik. The research result of this study implies that: (1) English teachers are suggested to use Audio Books using Communicative Language Teaching method to teach reading: (2) the students could use Audio Books using Communicative Language Teaching method to improve their own reading during teaching and learning process and whenever they read English text: and (3) the future researcher should conduct research with different students’ condition like students’ interest, motivation or habit.
