Abstract

Vocabulary is an important aspect in communication. Moreover, vocabulary is one factor to develop four language skills include listening, speaking, reading and writing. Many elementary schools have already used English as the local content. In fact, some of the English teachers present vocabulary to the students by reading a list of vocabulary on the book, without thinking how to make student keep interest in teaching process. Students in elementary school are categorized into young learners, by supporting attractive teacher and fun media, our expectation the students are not easily bored. The study is intended to develop a material for vocabulary for the fourth graders of elementary schools. This is a Research and Development (R & D) design that consists of several steps: Analysis, Design, Material Development, Experts validation, Revision, Try-out, and Final Product. In analysis, researcher had two procedures, they were learning needs and target needs. In design, researcher developed product using “Longtion Autorun” and then shared with expert validation about display and exercise. If there were some advise to repair display and exercise, so the researcher must revise again and that meant it was ready to try out. The last ready to use final product using Longtion autorun. The subjects of this study were the English students of fourth grade of SDN 2 Randuagung, Gresik. The instruments used in this study were interview, questionnaires and validity check list. The developed material as the product of this study was tried-out to the fourth graders after it was revised based on the experts validation. The result of the data based on students’ works showed that the six fourth graders were able to do the developed material exercises. The students said that they were very happy, felt happy to understand the content of the material. Based on students’ questionnaires all of the students stated that the material improved students interest and help them improve their vocabulary independently. These result showed that the product of the study had successfully answered the students’ needs in learning vocabulary as one of language components. The researcher suggested for the future researcher to do the same research with different level, focus, and different research design in order to enrich the various research.
