Abstract

This research has focused on developing Integrated English material for eleventh grade of automotive student in SMK Nurul Islam Pongangan Gresik. Integrated here is the combination among Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening skill, but the researcher takes the concern of the product is on speaking ability. In conducting the book, the researcher uses ESA approach which it stands for Engage Study and Activate, where each stage has different purpose and the end of these stages has the goal to make the students get fluency in speaking. This technique is suitable for ESP student where the goal of teaching learning is on real life orientation, systematic, introduce the activity that incorporated, sequenced and make the students aware of knowledge, ability, and the strategy that needed for several kinds of communication and discourse. The design of this product is based on Borg and Gall Instruction (ADDIE modified). In conducting the need analysis, the researcher uses questionnaire and interview as instrument and uses their syllabus and LKS as document analysis. The questionnaire is 11 questions for 12 automotive students. There are 3 questions for target needs and 8 for learning need. In target need, questions are about what knowledge and skills of the students that is required in target situation in English, nevertheless learning need are about what learner needs to study, it involves the style of students, motivations, and many else. There are 12 automotive students in try out stage and the researcher gives questionnaire to those students to know the response of the product with 7 questions and interview for the teachers. The experts of validation are their English and Subject teacher of automotive student. The result of need analysis is showed that the book has fulfilled their need, interesting and easy to understand. The book has 6 chapters where the materials are covered all students’ need with ESA as approach. Activities in Engage step are watching video, stimulating pictures, entertaining anecdote, and etc., then activities in study step are studying or discovering grammar, vocabulary, and many else, and the last, activities in Activate step such as role play, debates, discussion, writing, and etc., Finally, the development of the English book is hoped can be one of sources in learning English especially in speaking skill and the product can be useful for not only student but also the teacher and the next researcher who has same product with same approach
