Abstract

In this study, the researcher found some of characteristic students on third grade in SD Muhammadiyah 2 Gresik such as students often feel afraid to speak what they want or speak related with the material during teaching and learning process, they also get difficulties when they read and try to understand the English material in text book because they have limited vocabulary. After that, students’ motivations are very low and sometimes students feel boring to study of their English material in text book. It happened because the material is not interesting. Those became the reason for the researcher in conducting research development. It happened because there is no an interesting material. The English teachers didn’t have any material and media to improve their student’s speaking motivation. The goal of this study is to develop an English speaking material using E-Book. In this research development, there are some steps to develop E-book as English speaking material, such as need analysis, design instructions, development material, expert validation, development of validation, try out material, revision, and final product. Need analysis has been done by giving questionnaire to students, interview to the English teacher and checklist related to the content material of E-Book made by the researcher for the expert validation. After identifying the student’s needs, the researcher designed E-Book based on the student’s needs and appropriate of syllabus school. Then, the researcher made some lesson plans that suitable to the syllabus, developed material from some topic material on some textbooks, and arranged the topic material per unit. After E-Book (Electronic Book) has been developed as the final product, this product was given to the expert to be validated and evaluated. The researcher chose some people to expert and evaluated E-Book like headmaster and English teacher. From the result of the expert validation, the researcher should revised and developed more. After that, the researcher did try out to six students of third grade in SD Muhammadiyah 2 Gresik who are taken randomly by the English teacher. The product of this research is set of E-book (Electronic Book) for the elementary school included with material per unit based on syllabus of school (only first semester). This final product for this study is made in the form of PDF because this form easier to print when teacher need the material before teaching and learning process.
